Imaging of the Abdomen
. .
GENERAL INFORMATION
Date
January 23 & 24, 2003
.
Objectives
In the last decades the role of imaging in abdominal diseases has changed dramatically. New cross sectional imaging techniques, endoscopic techniques and nuclear medicine techniques have led to a substantial change in how gastroenterologists, surgeons and imaging specialists work. Presently, abdominal imaging has become an important part of the diagnostic work up of many patients with abdominal disease. New developments are being studied and rapidly introduced in clinical practice.
In this fast evolving field of abdominal imaging, an overview of the current state of the art, new developments and innovative, emerging techniques is a must for clinicians working in this area. An overview of various fields of abdominal imaging will be given during the forthcoming European Postgraduate Gastrosurgical School 2002 course ”Imaging of the abdomen: An update”.  In this course plenary sessions, live emonstrations and sessions on image interpretation at work stations will be given by experts in the field. The plenary sessions concern imaging of the esophagus, liver, pancreas and imaging in colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. Live demonstrations concern optical coherence tomography, fluorescence endoscopy and high magnification endoscopy. Image interpretation (CT, MRI) sessions at workstations will be given with emphasis on HPB, virtual colonoscopy and anorectal imaging. We invite you to participate in this interesting symposium.
